Bosch VP pump seal replacement - welshpug - 16-04-2017

this is for an E34 525 TDS, so a VP37 pump afaik, appears to have a small leak from a cap on the side of the pump, what I'm not sure of is if there's anything behind this which will ping out never to be found again...

I found this Image

its part 37, easily accessible and I have a Bosch seal kit already as I have replaced the centre head seal about 2 years ago.

just wanting to confirm that if there is anything that could fall out just needs to be placed back in the hole?

part 39 may also need to be removed at some point but that's on the engine side of the pump and may be a bastard to get at.

that's the advance piston i believe, i would take it steady, as you can see it's spring loaded, i haven't actually removed one myself but i think if you go careful you'll be alright Smile

Just an O ring that seals the cap on, mild spring with shims in the cap, long as you take it off and face it upwards, you wont loose anything. Strange place for it to leak mind, make sure cap isnt cracked while apart.

I don't think its ever been apart, but it is 24 years old and has had veg in it which I believe isn't so kind to old seals, evident by the top cover leak it developed a while ago!

Hope to have a look shortly, thanks for the input.

Thats where one of my pumps leaked. Its just a seal like others have said. Small amount of pressure from the advance piston with shims Smile

Same place that mine was leaking from as well.
