Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - Dum-Dum - 26-05-2015

Yeah I know it's a guide and it should be in the guides section but this is an amazing idea (stolen from another forum) so with FCS coming up and knowing that nobody regularly reads the guides section I thought I'd post it here for everyone to see (I'm sure it can be moved in a couple of days)

Parts list
Metal Bar at least 75cm long - Free but about a fiver if you buy from B&Q
3 U bolts - £1.14 each
6 washers to fit your u bolts £0.01 each
6 wing nuts to fit your wing nuts £0.05 each
Sticky go pro mount £1.09
Metal angle bracket £1.65

Tools
Drill
Drill bits up to the size of your u bolts and pop rivits
Pop riviter
Metal file

Start by checking your bar for length. From the videos I've seen on the internet they are a whole lot more stable when tied to both head rests than just one. Measure up the distance of the head rest supports so you know where to drill. I have 130mm between the ones on the seat and 560mm between the inner most supports over the gap between the seats.

Check that your U bolts have enough thread to bolt through the bar properly.
[attachment=23426]

Measure the gape of the U bolts then divide this by 2 and add i either side of your head rest support measurements.
[attachment=23428]

Add all these measurements to your bar.
[attachment=23427]

Drill your holes, starting very small makes it easier on a round bar. Once these are done file the outside of the bar smooth.
[attachment=23429]

Check that you have drilled correctly and the u bolts fit
[attachment=23430]

Then take the bar for a test fit in the car
[attachment=23431]
[attachment=23432]

Add you angle bracket in the center and drill and pop rivet it on. It doesn't need to be flat as your go pro mount will let you adjust for this.
[attachment=23433]

And admire the view.
[attachment=23434]

Add a sticky go pro mount and your away. I think a bit higher and a bit further forward gives a better picture.

Great idea dum!
Shame I don't have head rest.
Think I'll just use the sticky pads on the roof :-)

Bit dangerous imo for the price of a suction mount is it really worth it. Ive mounted mine like this on the cage i appreciate that not everyone can do that.

Made from a rubber lined pipe clamp and a few thread convertors cost all of £5 to make and has zero vibrations while in use.

The suction was mounted on the inside and it passed with the mashals so all good as far as I'm concerned

Sorry Sam I wasn't referring to you.

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - Dum-Dum - 27-05-2015

Why is it dangerous Stef? It's all mounted behind the seat, the nuts point backwards as do the edges of the mount, it cant come loose in a crash and if a crash is really bad it'll just bend the bar.

Does anyone else want me to make them one, got enough spare u bolts?

Added prices of what I've paid to the first post. I've spent £5.52 plus the bar which I had.

Nice idea, prefer my one though as seats can wobble about a bit or at least the zr ones do lol

^ Shower curtain pole is fantastically simple. Big supporter of that.

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - lolsteve - 27-05-2015

Adjustable and will fit in most cars Wink

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - Dum-Dum - 27-05-2015

Does that actually work Steve? I wouldn't of thought it was sturdy enough?

I think its quite good, dad was also impressed when we put it on the big tv and its still looked stable

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - Dum-Dum - 28-05-2015

That looks good Steve. Mine shakes about as the sticky mount I used is a cheap copy and doesn't hold the camera tight.

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - kentiiboii - 28-05-2015

Think I might need a curtain pole [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

If you have the packaging for the gro-pro it comes mounted on a flat piece of plastic. Could use strong adhesive and bond that to the metal bracket permanently?

what the f*ck did that sliver TVR brake for when going around the fiesta?? nearly put you in to the back of him! he should have just over took him and that was it!! rather than hang back like that and then brake! I would have flashed the head lamps at him for that one!
looks like binned afterwards then!

RE: Guide: Cheap in car Go Pro mount! - Piggy - 28-05-2015
