Breaking 30-31 August. Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Anton - 01-08-2013

I thought it was about time i started a project thread Rolleyes

Some of you may remember my P1 Sigma from a few years ago, sadly a HGV pulled out on me and wrote it off. However bits and pieces lived on in other peoples cars Smile.
I then didnt have a car for a few months whilst i finished Uni but was missing the XUD and boost.

I began searching for another nice P1, looked for around 3 months and still nothing that i liked. I eventually started looking at other XUD engined cars and came across the ZX.
At the time i literally knew nothing about them, not that many about and not as popular as the 306. It weighs 990kg so a fair bit of weight saving over a 306 too.

So about the car, i bought it from a guy in Yeovil of which it had been passed through the family. Its an early 1994 3 door Volcane DT in an unknown green. I got in October 2011 on 119k miles. Came with a Bosch and T2 as standard.
There are only around 200 of these left on the road compared to over 6000 306 DT's.

I'm not one for taking many pictures, that is how the car stands.

Since i have had it i have replaced so many parts, almost every consumable.
The current spec is as follows:

Brakes

GTI6 front brakes fully rebuilt and painted black
Ferodo DS2500 pads
Brembo Discs
Braided hoses

Rebuilt rear calipers
Brembo Discs
Mintex pads
Braided hoses

Suspension

GTI6 Shocks with 40mm springs (lowers around 100mm Rofl)
Standard height rear beam, although they are different to 306's.
They have 20mm TB's and calipers as standard, different toe specs.

Engine

D8a Xud9te
Reconditoned head
GT2052s Turbo
9mm Bosch (Gov mod)

Cosmetics

Omp subframes with Grey and Black leather buckets
Rear bench removed
Xsara alloys with spec 2's all round
Omp deep dish steering wheel
Boost gauge with a Gareth vent

Car is now on 175k miles, so in 20 months i have put 56,000 miles. Mainly on veg during that time!

Future plans are to fit my GAZ coilovers that ive had a while, along with rebuilding the rear beam and lowering 20mm or so.

The HG was replaced in November but has blown again although not as severe, so looking to fit my ARP studs which will hopefully cure that!

Thanks for reading!

Looking good man, always liked this car. Steering wheel is win too Wink

Re: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - vlj - 01-08-2013

Have a severe love for ZX's!

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - ozonehostile - 01-08-2013

I love a good zx. Just seem to be such a better made car than a 306, much nicer interior :-)

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - silverzx - 01-08-2013

Agreed, my ZX interior was lush compared to the 306, seemed more classy.

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Frosty - 01-08-2013

Looks really tidy chap. I didn't realise there are some much lighter than 306s.

Need more pics though Smile

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Anton - 01-08-2013

Cheers guys!

To be honest after owning two 306's, they seem to be much better thought out and made. Interior is lovely and to think its 20 years old!

Frosty as standard they are around 90kg lighter, mines had rear bench removed and a couple of other bits.

Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Jtrigga - 02-08-2013

Really like this need more pictures I looked for a volcane for a while before I got my GTI but couldn't find a 3 door anywhere.

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - silverzx - 02-08-2013

I wonder what happened to my black volcane dturbo, don't think the bloke ever signed up to the forum. Bargain he got at £350!

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - zx_volcane - 16-09-2013

shall I update this or are you going to :p

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Anton - 16-09-2013

Lol, go for it. I haven't got any pics.....

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - darrenjlobb - 17-09-2013

This is an epic car, I do envoy the shitroen boys a bit Wink

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - zx_volcane - 17-09-2013

Well I have a very small collection of photos >

Only one I have of the gt20 going on, using some fairy liquid and man power to get that hose on :

Some of the headgasket + helicoil + winstud exchange day

and a couple of your knackered inner cvs from the other day, but none of the shiny new driveshafts that went on.

Feel a bit bad, don't actually have any photos of the important things that went on like the kick ass new turbo, the arp win studs or the shiny new bottom arm and driveshafts.

We had a good go at fitting coilovers too, but got foiled by not having a 21mm offset spanner to get the old topmounts off. Obviously the best time to check if you have one is when you have bothered to take both shocks out the hubs and off the car and are ready to get the new coilovers on :/

Much love for this car, goes link stink, and keeps up with mine worryingly well!

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Pugmarshall - 17-09-2013

I love ZX's!

Use mole grips on the top mounts Wink

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Piggy - 17-09-2013

this a 2052?

with arps? 11mm?

That's because you need to train your foot to stay on the right pedal more than the middle one? :p

Anton. Really liking the spec on this, need more photos! Can't quite believe you binned the original seats tho, especially doing that many miles in one!

Cheers for the update, much appreciated!

A lot has happened in the last few months, the mileage that i do has basically meant that pretty much every part possible has been replaced.
Really want to get these coilovers on and lower the rear a bit.

Couldn't do any of the major stuff without the help from you! ThumbsUp

Thanks Paul! Yeah its severely lacking photos but i always forget! Its a work horse that does around 6-800 miles a week.

I've got the seats in my garage Wink, i'm a fat bugger and broke the drivers seat. Couldn't find a replacement in time for the MOT so bought these buckets.

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Paul Baldwin - 17-09-2013

Next time you are up get Tom to show you the way and I'll sort it Wink Nice to see the old workhorses still clocking up the miles! Managed 600+ in a day in mine twice without a sore arse and I'm a really skinny twat. I've had a few 306's and they eat up the miles but imo the "lowly" ZX is a step above and the Volcanes especially so!

All you need now is a turbo bigger than ZX_Volcanes Wink

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - strictly_perv - 18-09-2013

I love projects like this where you don't shout about your car, just quietly get along with it and create an awesome well specked car.

Can I just ask whether the turbo was off a petrol or diesel and the spool up times? PM me if you'd rather keep it quiet.

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Piggy - 18-09-2013

are you considering going 10/11mm?

how is it doing mpg wise for you?

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Anton - 18-09-2013

Thanks guys! Bigger turbo will be sorted in time Smile.

Max i'll message you.

Piggy at the moment i am happy with 9mm, may possibly go for for 10mm. I am averaging 49-54mpg depending.

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Piggy - 18-09-2013

sounds good.

I am impressed with how well the xud does with a more efficient turbo, more power but mpgs can be improved.
the 2.1 with the 2056 is epic so far

RE: Citroen ZX Volcane DT - Ruan - 20-09-2013

Can I just point out what a chronic win bus this is?
